The Ultra-Modern Icon of the East by Nic & Wes Builders

In this special home tour, we present to you a 15-year-old bungalow that has been masterfully transformed into a remarkable ultra-modern Lifestyle Home by Nic & Wes Builders. With over 20 years of practice, this passionate Design & Build team has developed a distinctive strategy for success, powered by a strong close-knit ecosystem of homeowner, architect, engineer, builder, and suppliers that has always produced wonderful results.

Located on a main road, the house stands out instantly with its unorthodox curved lines drawn from an iconic local dish — the Chili Crab. The captivating curved “claw” on the facade creates a unique character, while the non-standard multi-faceted roof design required special attention to construction details to ensure correct water dispersion and drainage.

Marine motifs can be found throughout — in the laser-cut gate that mimics foliage of luscious seaweed, and in the surrounding boundary wall featuring an undulated wave-like flow with juxtaposition of stone and glass. To enter the house, one climbs a set of stairs bridging over a Koi fish pond before arriving at a classy elongated wooden door. A beautiful L-shaped pool skirts from the front to the side of the home.

Inside, the abundance of space created through the impressive double-volume ceiling is amplified by natural light streaming through large glass panels. The curved staircase in the same monochromatic colour palette — the pièce de résistance — resembles a graceful art installation. Structural pillars are finished with a black and white skin arranged in a vertical spiral that accentuates the height, making the space dynamic and light.

On the ground floor, communal spaces seamlessly connect to create a fluent space with abundance of openness. White and beige tones are combined with dark hues for accents — black joinery and dark marble in the kitchen for island and countertop. Each bedroom includes a workstation and sitting space for a multi-functional role. The bathrooms are designed with luxurious finishes and special attention to detail.
