Rubiks Studio merges two opposing aesthetics — stark modern minimalism and cozy farmhouse charm — into a seamless inter-terrace home at Lorong Mydin, anchored by a grand Serip pendant and a central kitchen island.
Nestled in the tranquil neighborhood of Lorong Mydin, an inter-terrace residence emerges as a paradigm of design innovation. Conceived by Rubiks Studio, this home is a masterclass in balancing divergent aesthetics, merging the crisp, clean lines of modern design with the rustic charm of farmhouse details into a seamless living environment.
The inception of this architectural endeavor was inspired by the contrasting desires of its owners—one favored a minimalist modern theme characterized by stark black-and-white, while the other preferred the cozy, detail-rich atmosphere of a classic farmhouse. Through a meticulous process of design alchemy, the result was a refined blend that offers the best of both worlds.
A notable obstacle was an immovable column centrally placed within the residence. The designer demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills by removing a wall to expand the area, ingeniously incorporating the column into a full-height cabinet. This adjustment turned into a design feature that aligned perfectly with the home’s overall elegant and functional theme.
A pivotal feature is the central kitchen island, which epitomizes the designer’s passion for creating gathering spaces within the home. This island not only serves as a functional centerpiece for culinary activities but also acts as a social hub, drawing people together in both purpose and interaction.
The palette chosen for the Lorong Mydin home can be described as “Feather”—encompassing a range of clean, bright, and light hues that enhance the airy and open feel of the interiors. A standout element is the grand pendant light above the kitchen island, crafted by Serip—the Nenufar—which symbolizes the merging of elegance and functionality.
The designer’s favorite aspect encompasses the entire first level, rich with meticulously chosen details that exemplify the fusion of modern and farmhouse styles. Features like shaker-style detailing and grooved TV console doors seamlessly integrate with the riser of the elevated dining space.
